How To Make Playdough In 3 Easy Steps

Updated: Aug 14, 2022

What a wonderful day to make something!! Today’s Anatomy Arts and Crafts is easy..... BUT MESSY!

We are making PLAYDOUGH!

Okay, so I know what you’re all thinking, you think you’re too old for playdough! Well allow me to set the record straight. There are some simple pleasures in the world that you are just never too old for & playdough is one of them. It’s a great way to make things, be mindful, learn or just have a bit of fun.

If you would prefer to watch the video tutorial then follow this link.

Let’s get cooking, here is what you will need for your playdough.

  • 2 tbs cooking oil

  • 4 tbs Cream of Tartar

  • 2 cups plain flour

  • 1 cup salt

  • Food colouring

  • 2 cups cold water

  • Biodegradable glitter

Glitter is optional. I choose a biodegradable glitter so that when I’m finished with my play dough or it starts to dry out, I can put it in the compost and there is practically no waste.

Let's get started!

We are using a hot plate to cook our play dough today, so make sure you have an adult to help you with this craft!

1. Place all of your ingredients into a bowl and mix. Add your colour, or separate into multiple bowls to make different colours.

2. With your fry pan on a low heat, add your mixture to the pan. Continuously mix as it cooks. This helps to avoid any lumps forming. A spatula can be good to help pry it from the pan.

3. Once it takes form, remove it from the fry pan. Allow to sit for 1-2 minutes on a plate to cool. Then knead it gently to help it all stick together nicely.

Can you believe it was that easy to make playdough?

Now you have a wonderful tool to help you learn and create. If you'd like to see what I've created, follow this link and watch the video to see my end product.

I would just love to see what creations you have come up with!
